intermédia

« Yet there is also something interesting about this impulse to compose a history across different media, as a series of histories. This form of serialization no longer requires that narrative be localized in a first entry or a single medium. Rather narrative is dispersed across different media and often presented by different authors in different styles — and often from the outset. Each media constitutes a different level that adds something to the overall history. Structurally, this recalls the movement between levels in certain video games. In these ‘intermedia’ series, however, levels are not even loosely hierarchized or motivated in accordance with some outcome or resolution. Rather we have something like different dimensions of a puzzle, problem or quest. »
